The new IDA Board of Directors under the leadership of president Rick Goldstein and new Executive Director, Sheryle Hazard has been working very hard on several programs to be introduced in 2010.
The first order of business is the Membership Program to drive more operators, manufacturers and distributors to the IDA.
As well, the IDA will introduce the long awaited programs including:
There is more on tap, but the final plans for the programs have not yet been completed.

I have not heard anything from the IDA in a while.
I have not heard anything about these changes, not received any email, notifications, etc.
As a member, and a member of the Environmental Committee, I am surprised that no one has reached out with a communciation or a phone call.
When is the next meeting? What is the agenda? Who are the Board Members now that others have resigned? Who is the new Executive Director? How does one get in touch? Does the IDA communciate with members?
Is anyone renewing? Is anyone adding membership?

I'd like to know the processes, techniques, products and other things that the IDA would be teaching detailers (or refinishers) as I call us?
sure none of us know everything or even alot in some cases but so many places and organisations teach people the same old bullshit. sanding, paint correction, waxing, etc. thats good but these days wash, clay, cut, polish and wax is old school and not done anymore by us and many.
using carnuaba or polymer waxes, compounding and three product polishing systems are all obsolete
there is tonnes more to detailing than that and I'm still refering to paintwork care pre correction & polishing preparation (decontamination) is one aspect to paint care that 3/4 of detailers in the world don't do any or enough of

Mr Fitzpatrick
Thank you for your post.
Did you not receive the July issue of the Detail Dialogue that outlines what the IDA is doing under the new executive director, president and board of directors?
The Enviromental Committee was formed under the previous president, Erik Jeffries headed by Rick Sures and was charged to develop a resource page on the IDA website for members to use to know the compliance laws. This was accomplished and the Enviromental Committe disbanded or should we say, not re-formed by the new president, Rick Goldstein.
As you may know, each president forms those committees they feel are necessary for the association's activities for the coming year.
This year the focus for IDA is on Membership, the Certification Program and the publishing of the IDA Business Survey.
The IDA conducted a very successful detail education program in conjunction with the ICA at the Car Care World Expo and hosted a very well attended reception for detailers.
If you read the Detailer's Dialogue you will learn all the association news.
The questions you ask are all answered in the newsletter and if you read this forum you will know who the new executive director is which was announced weeks ago. As well, as a member you should know that you can contact the IDA at info@the-ida.com
Sincerely,

Thank you. No, i did not receive that communication. Just checked my emails again and did not locate.
As a Member of the Environmental Committee, I am surprised to hear that it has been disbanded after a tactical project. In my area, the new NPDES MS4 Permit which regulates discharge and prevents pollution from entering storm drains has renewed their permits, as all areas do every 5 years per requirements to do so.
This new permit requires the County and Cities to develop a Pilot program to regulate mobile businesses, targeting this industry as a chief source of pollution problems. Looks like I will have to go it alone, or without support of the IDA. Not what I would recommend.
I would like to see more transparency by publishing agendas and minutes, and more input from Membership before such important decisions are made.
When is the next Board Meeting? What is the agenda?
Business Survey is a nice to do, don't think it is a gotta have. Certification is a great goal, wish all the best. Reality suggests that is a challenging task in any industry, holy cow task in this industry, in my opinion. I guess you have to start somewhere, get something out there, and improve it overtime. But, I would like to see how the IDA defines detailing? How does it differentiate between Maintenance and Prevention and Restoration ends of the business?
Is there any materials available to review on Certification?
The one thing on the plan that appears to be achievable is increased membership. I have heard this goal for a while, we are almost into the 4th quarter of the year ... can you announce one big industry name that has joined this year? Meguiar's? Simonize? Wash Depot?
Lastly, the message is unsigned ... who is responding?
Talk soon,
Jim

Hi Jim - as the new Executive Director of the International Detailing Association I can assure you that the organization is growing and its leaders are striving to implement new programs and update existing programs to better benefit the members of IDA. We are now publishing an electronic newsletter on a monthly basis (you should have received your September issue already) to keep our members up-to-speed, and of course between issues timely information may be found on the IDA website at http://www.the-ida.com. The website also contains a listing of members. The IDA leadership is always willing to review suggestions on how we may improve services for the detailing industry as a whole, and I invite you to contact me at 651-925-5526 or info@the-ida.com. Thank you, Sheryle Hazard, CAE IDA Executive Director |

Jim
As Chairperson of the Certification Committee this year I can tell you that the Phase 1 knowledge tests are being reviewed by a special committee selected by the president to make a final evaluation of the tests and when they approve the first 3 tests the Certification Program will be kicked off.
The tests will only be made available to those who register for the Certification Program.
Within the next couple of weeks the industry will be presented with full information on the program and how they can participate.
If you have any further questions feel free to contact me personally I will share with you as much as I can.
Regards Bud Abraham
